The Movie Buff – Desert Island Films

Mark from The Movie Buff has kindly submitted his Desert Island Films. Read on for his choices and reasons, and be sure to check out his site.

*************************************************************************************************

Desert Island Films is about choosing 8 films you would take if you were going to be stranded on a desert island and explaining your choices. They don’t necessarily have to be your favourites, just 8 films, no more or no less! You are also permitted to take one book and one novelty item which must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside.

The Movie Buff – Desert Island Films

1. “Castaway”

Reason: Come on, if you’re going to be stranded on an island, you need Tom Hanks to show you the ropes.
2. “Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”
Reason: A truly raucous film. Good for a laugh, and all 4 central characters sure know how to be resourceful in a clutch.
3. “6 Days and 7 Nights”
Reason: A silly movie, but great distraction. And hey, let’s face it — Harrison Ford is The Man, and a good resource to have around in a survival situation.
4. “The Edge”
Reason: Sticking with the survival motif, “The Edge” is a great movie with great acting from all involved. One of Hopkins’ best, and a superb wilderness survival story.
5. “Batman Begins”
batman begins
Reason: Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy is one of the greatest superhero epics. This first movie in the trilogy is an action-packed start to this terrific saga.
6. “Friday the 13th Part 2”
Reason: You need a classic horror flick on a deserted island. Featuring the genesis of Jason Vorhees, this is a must have for any stranded experience.
7. “Scarface”
Reason: Honestly, a good gangster movie that will entertain over and over again.
8. “The Recruit”
Reason: For some reason, this is one of my favorite films. It has a great story, decent acting, and is a great comfort movie after a long day.
Book: “Les Miserables,” by Victor Hugo
Reason: A great book, which I haven’t had time to finish. If I was stranded on an island I think I could finally find the time.
Luxury Item: Monster Energy drink
Reason: Great tasting, and I’ll need my energy!

Some good choices. The recruit is one of my favs too and was probably the first time I really noticed Colin Farrell. Obviously purely for his acting skills. 🙂
