Desert Island Films: S1ngal

S1ngal from s1ngal.com has kindly submitted her Desert Island Films. Read on for her choices and reasons, and be sure to check out her site.

Desert Island Films is about choosing 8 films you would take if you were going to be stranded on a desert island and explaining your choices. They don’t necessarily have to be your favourites, just 8 films, no more or no less! You are also permitted to take one book and one novelty item which must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside.

Desert Island Films: S1ngal

Desert:  a dry, often sandy region of little rainfall, extreme temperatures, and sparse vegetation

Island: a tract of land completely surrounded by water, and not large enough to be called a continent

So that’s where I might be sent to. However, [thanks to Tyson Carter @ headinavice.com] not without my armour – I get to take 8 movies with me, a book and ONE luxury item. Why am I not, then, jumping up and down punching into thin air? Well, it’s because I need to give reasons as to WHY I choose THESE movies, that particular book and that particular luxury item…

  1. Snatch: I honestly don’t go anywhere without this move – let alone to some desert island. Why can’t this be a reason enough?

  1. Good Will Hunting: This movie is not just one of my most watched movies but it has and always will be a part of my life.

  1. One Fine Day: I love this movie as much as I love the phrase. It’s simple, funny and light and sweet and it makes my day a “fine day” every time I watch it.

  1. Once: I haven’t been much of a musical-fan but this movie is unlike any other I’ve watched. The movie is so candid, so innocent, pure, simple and adorable. The music is awesome, the duets are just amazing – the way the characters’ voices complement each other – I JUST NEED THIS MOVIE on THAT desert.

  1. Carnage: Why? Christoph Waltz! Need I say more? Well, all right – Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster, of course.

carnage

  1. Amores Perros: This movie had me on my toes from the first scene to the last and ERGO I’m taking it just for the brilliance of it all. Besides, I might need to get out of all-English speaking movies.

amores perres

  1. Grave of the Fireflies: I know it’s a sad movie – very sad one indeed and just the thought of those siblings is enough to overwhelm me with sadness. But then again, it’s one of the best animated movies I’ve watched and love to watch, still. If this movie fails to move me, I’ll understand that I’ve apparently died of sun-stroke on that desert.

  1. To Kill a Mockingbird: It is one movie which is as good as the book [this movie is one reason why I started watching film adaptation of novels all of which failed to live up to my expectation].

BOOK:

Instead I choose one author and then I’ll rely on my luck as to whichever one I can grab on my way to the desert island – any book by Ian McEwan, thank you. Why? I love McEwan novels and wouldn’t mind re-reading any ONE of them over and over again. So, why not?

LUXURY ITEM:

[If I can afford to have it until I’m shipped away to that Desert]. E-cigarette, thank you very much. Why? Because I don’t want to run out of cigarettes and I want to quit smoking. I really don’t care if this makes sense, after all it’s MYYYYYY luxury item and I’d have taken it with me even if I had no reasons whatsoever.

Thank you Head in a Vice and sorry I took this long. After all, one needs to prepare for a trip like this but not for a moment did I think of backing out.

Some new and interesting choices. But three I’m very familiar with — “One Fine Day” (Underrated by many), “Good Will Hunting”(Two of our local boys make good) and, of course, “To Kill A Mockingbird” — Excellent!!

  13. Interesting choices. 🙂 Good job. And I’ve not seen most of them! (Only seen Snatch, Good Will Hunting & To Kill A Mockingbird). Been wanting to see Grave of the Fireflies for a while now – been getting into the Ghibli stuff lately.

  14. Great to see Snatch on the list! Fantastic turn by Pitt and Statham is in a role that actually suits him. Do you literally take it everywhere dude? I guess you never know when you might need to hear Pitt’s Irish accent…

Bringing in your own food is not allowed; but you can buy a bucket of popcorn at the island movie theater for $12! Or if you want to get big savings buy the bucket of popcorn & soda combo for only $20.
