Head In A Vice is 1!!!

keep-calm-and-just-congratulate-me

Towards the end of July 2012, I started this little blog with the aim of sharing my thoughts on some movies, kind of in the hope that one or two people somehow stumbled across it. And here I am, some twelve (ish) months later. Since I basically lost August this year due to WordPress issues and couldn’t post, I’m finally able to congratulate myself on lasting a year (give or take).

I wasn’t going to make a big deal about it, but then I decided I would because other people do it and I like to blend in. Plus, it gives me another chance to thank you all for making this year so memorable.

I’ve made 202 posts, had over 140,000 visits (a lot of them were Eric trying to get REC 3 in my top 10), received over 12,000 comments and even more likes, so it’s safe to say I’m delighted with my first years progress. Throw in all these Awards passed on by fellow bloggers, every single one of you that has ever bestowed my site with one of those blog chain letters awards is listed and linked on that page, and I’m grateful to you all. Obviously this is way more than I ever hoped for, so thank you all for stopping by and I hope I can keep you coming back.

I’ve been quite vocal on here about changing my direction and focus, and doing away with the IMDB reviews was a big deal for me. After all, lots of you contributed and took the time to write reviews, I felt bad just doing away with it all. Going back to basics and writing more horror reviews has revitalised my creativity and I enjoy working on here again. I think we all go through stages where we hit a rut, and taking a break (or a self-imposed one thanks WordPress) really can recharge the batteries.

My Desert Island project has been amazing, with 75 entries posted so far and more waiting in the queue. I’m always looking for new castaways and would love to feature any of you who haven’t submitted your choices yet. Just get in touch! For anyone interested, Pulp Fiction & Drive are the most selected films, followed closely by Star Wars.

Coming soon is a special top-secret announcement about a new project I’m involved in. I can’t wait to share it with you, and I’m expecting lots of you to sign up for………..I’ve said too much. Speaking of projects, if you get chance, please stop by my good friends Chris & Mark who are running a blogathon and check out all the good work some bloggers have submitted. More specifically my Reservoir Dogs write-up. Thanks again for having me fellas.

That’s it, back to regular posting from now on, and please excuse me for patting myself on the back. It’s been a fun twelve (ish) months out here blogging, and I’ve met so many fellow movie lovers. I hope it continues, and I still feel honoured anyone takes the time to stop by. The rest of the year is going to be so exciting and busy for me, what with the PlayStation 4 and Anchorman 2 coming out. Oh yeah, and this little dude or dudette arriving in about 8 weeks!! 🙂

Look at its little heart!!! :)

I have two screws in my left arm from a FOOTBALL injury and now that I’m old, it can get bothersome with too much action…

        • I agree, I tried lots of social media experiments as a test, and whilst Reddit was the best for views, 99% of the time they got a handful, the exception made it worth it with thousands. Even so, I prefer what I have, an active community that is from lots of reciprocation and commenting on other sites 🙂 Writing about films is above all else, of course!

        • Very valuable advice. I’m all about a smaller, more active community than a larger, less active one.

I would order both those editions. Last time Anchorman came out of original dvd, the special editions came with the lost movie, and more importantly the team bobbleheads. They still sell for a fortune on ebay, and Im in the UK so we never had a chance. This time if they exist I’m all over it!

      • Slowly, but it’s getting there! The framework of the site is staying the same, but going in and removing reviews, changing the layout (two long paragraphs to four short paragraphs), and adjusting all the indexes, is taking a lot longer than I’d expected. I’m looking at a re-launch of January 1st, if all goes according to plan!

And yes, I’ll take those 171 comments, but only if they’re positive and non-combative!

        • Sounds good, Jan 1st really that far away? You need to hire some monkeys or something to speed it up!

I cant promise they will be positive, depends how much you bash Silver Linings and films like that 😉

        • I wish I could afford some damn monkeys! And it made me laugh when I just checked your review index, and basically all of the movies listed are horror, except for such blood-and-guts classics as Elf, It’s a Wonderful Life, and of course, Silver Linings Playbook!

And you realize, of course, that if it wasn’t for the existence of Silver Linings Playbook, you and I would have absolutely nothing to say to each other! 😉

        • I know, the index looks so much better with just my reviews on, but I didnt have the heart to remove the xmas ones. Silver Linings is part of the De Niro project so it fits my code 😉

That is true, lets hope they make a sequel or me and you may be silent forever!

Your stats are so impressive. My blog is about a year old, but attracts less people than a kitten killing convention.

That does work. I once got a lot of hits because someone posted a link to my anime top 5 on Reddit. I try to avoid that though as I fear a backlash if I bug people too much by spamming adverts. A lot of the visitors also don’t seem to stick around.
